Station Casinos just opened a brand-new casino last Friday, bringing hundreds of new jobs to…Western Michigan.
The $165-million Gun Lake Casino, located between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo in western Michigan, opened last Friday. Station Casinos advanced tens of millions of dollars to the Gun Lake tribe to develop the project (which it is getting back) and has a deal to manage the casino for the tribe for seven years in exchange for a management fee.
Will Station Casinos use the money it makes in Michigan to invest in jobs and opportunities for locals here in Las Vegas? Or will the profits from developing another out-of-state casino simply go to pay for the salary and benefits and perks of Chief Development Officer Scott Nielson and other top executives?
According to Mr. Nielson, Station Casinos will continue to pursue tribal development and management deals outside of Nevada. Meanwhile, Station Casinos workers here in Las Vegas are still waiting for a wage increase, more affordable healthcare, and real respect for their rights to participate in union activities!
Will Station Casinos treat its workers in Michigan the same way it has treated its workers here in Las Vegas? If so, watch out!
